Johnny has over 20 years of industry experience, combining 18 years of civil and structural design, with 2 years of project management. This includes extensive work in the design of reinforced concrete structures, as well as steel, masonry and timber in residential, commercial and rail environments.

Johnny's career in engineering started by working for civil and structural design consultancies such as Jacobs, WSP, Meinhardt and JNP. During this time he gained vast experience designing structures in steel, concrete, timber and masonry - from gravity foundations for London Underground stations, to RC ground beams and domestic property masonry designs, to steel frame building concept designs and medium and high rise RC frame building design.

 

In 2009, Johnny took on the role of an in-house Geo-structural engineer for Abbey Pynford, a design and build piling and foundations contractor. Working for a contractor suited Johnny's desire to work in a fast paced, dynamic and challenging environment. Working on live projects which often came with added time pressures, gave Johnny a clearer understanding of how a contractor works and what they practically need from their designers. Work included the RC design of piled rafts and piles nationwide for new-build housing foundations, as well as piled raft underpinning and retro-fit basements in London, culminating in the complex design of the new basement ticket hall at Bond Street London Underground Station.

Site and project management work followed at Abbey Pynford, with Johnny managing the site works at Bond Street Station and various piled raft foundation works.

The combination of consultancy and contractor design work, coupled with site management experience has given Johnny a great understanding of what is required from a designer, from both a technical, practical, time and cost perspective. In 2013 Johnny set up JPE Contracts Ltd to bring his skill set to various contractors, commercial clients and domestic clients nationwide.
